The function of packing is to control leaks, not to prevent the whole

leakage, because the packing must always be lubricated and leakage is recommended to maintain

the lubrication is around 40 to 60 drops per minute. Lubrication method on packing

depending on the condition of the liquid being pumped and also the pressure on a stuffing box.

When the stuffing box pressure is above atmospheric pressure and the pressed liquid is clean and not corrosive. This sealer is a Gland packing or Compression packing or packing created as

sealing device shown in Figure 3 b, but because it must drip,

then it is more appropriately referred to as a restrictional device.

Gland Packing is usually made with a braided or woven system with a cross section shape and its constituent material can be graphite, acrilic, PTFE, asbestos and so on the liquid on the pump that serves as a lubricating gasket.
